We have hosted a series of free creative workshops to share our experiences of the June 2021 storms. Using wood salvaged from the Dandenong Ranges, we have painted, written, carved and collaged our stories, with a focus on
recovery, resilience and hope.
Three years on we are all at different stages of recovery. Everyone in our community was impacted in one way or another, and we would like to creatively document those experiences.
If you were unable to participate in a workshop, you are welcome to collect a piece of wood from Emma Jennings Gallery in Olinda, and work on it at home.
This has been an incredible experience, and I’m really proud of our team of artists, community groups and volunteers who have been involved, but especially the beautiful, honest, important artwork made by our community.
We respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the custodians of the beautiful land, forests and animals where this work has taken place, and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. We are excited to be able to share traditional Cultural traditions in this project, and do so with the utmost respect and gratitude.
