Waiting 2025

Charcoal, earth pigments and gouache on Japanese paper

A pile of logs and debris was made at the Olinda Primary School oval, and every other oval on the hill. A waiting pile. Hundreds of logging trucks eventually took them away, and the rest pushed into huge burn piles. I made rubbings of several of them, and this was one of the first. For nearly four years it has been in the studio, waiting for its turn to become something more.

A slow painting, with layers of time, using materials of the forest to heal.

Emma Jennings paints from her studio gallery in Australia’s beautiful Dandenong Ranges rainforest. Emma uses layers of tone, pattern and botanical studies to investigate metaphysical and ecological connections in the natural world.
