‘Shadow Rain III’ 2019

Acrylic on ecoply board

97 x 39cm Framed with Australian Tasmanian Oak

This series of paintings is a gentle investigation into our relationship with the natural world. Using sustainably sourced eco-ply panels, I work in a very loose and fluid way of pouring, dripping and rubbing the paint into the wood grain. This allows the natural beauty and imperfections of the timber to play a part in the composition, and ultimately the story. The intricate shapes and patterns replicate the geometry found in the natural world, painted into the organic fall of the paint - a push and pull of the materials. So often we forget to questions where things have come from or how they are made. My work aims to slow things down, to remind us to look closely at the beauty around us, and to breathe in the colours, textures and life of the forest.
