Fuel Reduction 2025
Oil pastel and watercolour on Japanese paper
Trees still fall occasionally, seemingly more often than before the storm. This one was across Olinda Basin Rd which I drive down every day. It’s a beautiful spot on the northeastern side of Corhanwarrabul (Mount Dandenong), amongst charcoal tree trunks from recent fuel reduction burns, and fresh green ferns.
The irony of a community living in one of the most bushfire prone areas in the world, with large patches of forest on the edge of residential streets backburned each year to reduce the risk of fire, recovering from an unprecedented, cyclonic winter storm.
This painting is ready to hang, with Australian ash sticks attached to the top and bottom of the paper. If you prefer I can arrange for it to be framed (please note framing is not included in this price).
Emma Jennings paints from her studio gallery in Australia’s beautiful Dandenong Ranges rainforest. Emma uses layers of tone, pattern and botanical studies to investigate metaphysical and ecological connections in the natural world.
