Public Artwork Sculptures - Jells Park Playground
Commissioned by Frisby Fitzgerald Landscape Architects and Parks Victoria, with the site built and managed by Exterior Concept Landscapes.
Having spent many years playing softball and netball at Jells Park, running around the lake for training, and now visiting with my children, designing something for the new playground at Madeline’s cafe felt like coming home.
Six 2.4m high bird echo chambers are placed around the natural playground encouraging visitors to think about the sounds of local birds. With detailed bird illustrations, a fun, dyslexic friendly font, orientation and size to accommodate wheelchair access and bright colours representing each bird, this signage is designed to be accessable and fun for all ages and abilites.
Full aluminium sheets were etched, cut and rolled, then powdercoated by Lump Studio and the stainless steel signage etched by Acme Platemaking. All proudly made in Melbourne.
FFLA have designed an incredible playground, featuring natural systems, biodiversity, and inventive ways for children to enjoy the wonder of Jells Park’s landscape and views of the lake and Dandenong Ranges.
I would like to acknowledge that this artwork sits on traditional Wurundjeri land and pay my respect to the elders both past and present.
